The Healthy Jews Are Coming
Our community is launching next week with our first online workshop. You're invited!
Jews do lots of things together:
Pray and read the Torah in quorums of at least 10.
Study Torah with rabbis and partners in a yeshiva.
Eat in groups of 3+ or 10+ to extra-thank God together for the meal.
Recite a super-special blessing when 600,000 Jews meet. (I was present at one such gathering.)
There’s good reason for this.
Individual Jews are mortal people like any other - we can’t get beyond our built-in limitations of body and character. Left to our own devices, not many folks would remember God’s existence, and even fewer would allow God into their lives.
We need to lean on the unified Nation of Israel, to be part of a larger group that can hold us when we falter. The more we join together, the more Jewish the experience.
It’s Hard to Choose Health Alone
Living Healthy Jewish is no different. Although you’re the only one who can care for your health - like all spiritual and religious choices - you don’t need to do it alone.
For many people, it’s impossible to stick with healthy choices - eating Real Food, becoming a Walker - without the support of a group of like-minded friends.
Even if you can slug it out, the spirit and joy of wellness comes from embracing the challenge together.
Many of the wonderful people I’ve worked with in Healthy Jew Personal coaching have asked about ongoing groups and classes where they can meet and learn about healthy Jewish living together with folks on similar journeys, facing similar challenges.
They are so right.
It’s awesome to receive a personalized healthy living plan, but disheartening when often it doesn’t stick for long. The process was still worthwhile, because vestiges of awareness will remain and perhaps one day blossom again. But it’s not a recipe for living long and healthy.
Many people are intimidated by the scope and vulnerability of meeting 1-on-1.
Not everyone can afford personalized health coaching.
The Healthy Jew Community
The solution to all these problems is a vibrant group of health-seekers, like we’ll create together at The Healthy Jew beginning next Tuesday, January 16.
We’ll set aside external differences, uniting instead around our creation in the “form and likeness of God” (Bereishis/Genesis 1:26) - the uniquely human capacity to choose purposeful wellness, and to choose that wellness together.
We’ll meet every month for an online workshop, interact in special monthly Q&A posts, and continue the conversation publicly in the comments section and privately in Healthy Jew Personal coaching. (For more details, check out last week’s post.)
“Israel Needs Healthy Jews: Finding Wellness During Wartime.“
The first workshop will be for all subscribers to The Healthy Jew, free or paid. You’re invited!
Next Tuesday, January 16, at 8:30pm Israel time (1:30 EST), you’ll learn:
How this war - and any crisis - threatens our health and wellness.
How to win the war with the Healthy Jew principles: eat well, move well, be well.
Specific strategies to live Healthy Jewish during challenging times.
The crucial role of Natural Israel in solving this crisis.
The room will be open from 8:15 (1:15 EST), if you’d like to drop in to say hello. We’ll begin at 8:30 (1:30 EST) sharp, and wrap up with Q&A at 9:15 (2:15 EST).
